Fight inequality: make a noise!
January 14 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Hope is co-organiser for an event this coming Saturday, 18th Jan, at 11am in the Market Square Northampton, where we will make a noise about inequality.
There is rising inequality in the UK, and the people Hope helps are the most disadvantaged in society. They are the victims of an unequal society where just 1% of the population owns 48% of eveything. Unequal societies are not healthy societies either, with inequality the cause of societal unhappiness and many other problems, not least of all for health (see the work of Michael Marmot and the Spirit Level by Wilkinson and Pickett).
This event is entirely non party-political. Its not a Hope event; its part of Global Protest organised in the UK by the Equality Trust, of which we are members. The event is aimed to be friendly, good natured, lively, law abiding (its registered with the council) but noisy: we invite anyone to come, and to be prepared to make a noise using any method or implement to hand – bring a drum, bring a whistle!
