Make a real difference in Northamptonshire
Role: Trustee (Finance Specialism) – Recruitment Advertisement
Northampton Hope Centre is seeking a Trustee with financial expertise to join our Board and play a crucial role in guiding our strategic and financial direction.
At Hope, we’re more than just a charity – we’re a force for change. Our mission is to end homelessness, hunger and hardship. We support people at their lowest points and help them rebuild their lives through crisis support, food services, housing help, training, and personal development.
We support over 2,000 individuals annually across Northamptonshire, providing vital food support, shelter, skills training, and housing pathways. In 2023–2024, we delivered over 30,000 meals, 85 nights of winter shelter, and operated our day centre 326 days, helping over 500 individuals experiencing homelessness. Our training and wellbeing programmes engaged hundreds more.
Hope operates with 25+ staff and 400+ volunteers, with an annual turnover of between £1.3 and £1.5 million. We partner with local authorities, health providers, community groups, and funders such as National Lottery and People’s Lottery, and collaborate closely with West Northamptonshire Council to improve housing and homelessness services.
Our Current Recruitment Priority – Financial Expertise
We are looking for a finance professional to join our diverse and values-driven Board of Trustees. This individual will play a key role in overseeing Hope’s financial health, supporting the Board and senior management team in areas such as:

– Budget setting and monitoring
– Investment and reserves strategy
– Supporting our Finance Manager and CEO to ensure robust reporting and planning
– Helping the Board understand and interpret financial information
You don’t need to be a qualified accountant (though this is welcome). What matters most is strategic financial insight, a good grasp of charity finance, and a passion for social justice and inclusion.
What’s Involved?
– Attend 4–6 Board meetings a year (usually evenings)
– Support the Finance & Audit subgroup (2–3 times a year)
– Help shape strategic decisions and ensure sound financial governance
– Act as an ambassador for Hope and our mission
This is a voluntary role, with full induction and ongoing support provided. We are committed to inclusive recruitment – if you need any support or adjustments to apply, please let us know.
