About Alastair Smith

Although originally from Sheffield I have lived in Northampton for over 30 years. I am now 62 years old, I retired from a big multinational company about 5 years ago, having worked there for 32 years.

Once retired naturally I had more time and there is only so much time I can spend doing my many hobbies so I looked for some volunteering roles. I have now been at the Hope Centre for close to 2 years. I work at the drop in centre every Wednesday and my main task is to keep the stock room tidy and organised. The stock room contains all the clothes and accessories which are donated by the public and then passed onto the service users as required. In addition I help with the washing of clothes and when I have a few minutes chatting to the people who come to use the services provided.

I thoroughly enjoy my time at the centre, although I realise I only play a very small role in helping it does give me satisfaction to know that every little bit helps and I am sure collectively all the volunteers make a significant difference. If you are thinking of volunteering, I would really recommend it.
